Digital technology has been widely used in each stage of vehicle body design. The stage of vehicle body structure concept design is the dominate stage throughout the course of body design, which can avoid the design risk of detailed design stage effectively by the predictive design and analysis of body structure. In order to realize the complex design, analysis and optimization process of body structure in a short time and provide accurate reference data for detailed design phase, specialized digital software for body concept structure needs to be developed to realize the integrated design process in the intelligent and modular way.After analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the present relevant softwares for body concept structure, this paper develops an independent body structure concept design digital system based on component technology, it realizes three basic modules including geometry modeling, finite element analysis and optimization. With the help of wizard style user interface, it can establish geometry model in a short time and calculates the bending stiffness, torsion stiffness and modal after meshing and imposing the boundary conditions to the model. Also, it can take on preliminary optimization to the body structure. Finally, the system greatly shortens the design cycle of concept structure and provides the reliable design scheme for the structure detailed design.The paper develops the digital design in the following aspects:(1) Study the present situation of body concept structure design, and propose the methods and objects of the system according to design needs of automotive industry.(2) Introduce the modularization development process of system, and analyze the realization method of component platform.(3) Establishe the system structure frame on component platform, take the MVC design pattern to design the view mechanism, model data management and controller components parts of the system.(4) Develop functional components of the geometry modeling module for body structure concept design system, and build the body geometry model based on ACIS modeler components and template technology according to the wizard type process.(5) Analyze the finite element analysis theory of body static characteristics, develop the pre-processing, solving and post-processing parts of the finite element module, realize the generation and analysis course of the finite element model, and use XML technology to generate analysis report. (6) Realize the structure optimization process of optimization module on the basic of structure optimization theory, develop the special DOT optimization iteration component, and generate optimization report in spreadsheet.Finally, after comparing the result of bending stiffness、torsion stiffness and modal between the concept structure and standard model, and analyzing the mass single objective optimization results of optimization module, it validates the reliability and practicability of system modules.
