With the rapid development of computer science and network technology, online virtualexhibition has become a new popular expression. It makes use of computer virtual realitytechnology to simulate a real exhibition, which gives a fully immersive experience to thevisitors. With virtual scenes and exhibits, online virtual exhibition provides the public withinteraction, experience, which the physical exhibition couldn’t. It breaks the constraints oftime and space, and it also provides various network resources achieving resource sharing. In view of the unsatisfactory interaction, immersive experience, and complicateddeployment, this paper comes up with an Web3D based approach to implement online virtualexhibition. Firstly this paper pays Web3D technology an in-depth study, and selects the keytechnology which is exactly Flash3D after comparing the mainstream of Web3D technologies. The Flash3D technology takes advantages of no additional plug-ins, interactive, small size offiles of flash and vivid3D models as well, so that it’s able to provide a better user experience. And then this paper elaborates the implementation of an online virtual exhibition prototypesystem, taking account of the user experience quality assessment mode and using Flash3Dengine to combine Flash and3D models. Lastly, this paper proves the superiority of thesystem by user experience evaluation and comparing with the other virtual exhibition systemson loading speed, running efficiency, user experience. The innovation of this paper is that the prototype system is based on user experience, andit’s complemented by using Flash3D technology and combing with the quality of userexperience evaluation model. And the system takes the Guangdong online virtual exhibitionof Expo Shanghai as the application background, which makes this research has practicalvalue. The paper also raises the following optimizations to the system, parsing and convertingthe ASE file to Flash3D engine’s customized model code instead of using traditional3Dmodel file, which improves loading efficiency; introducing the SWF compression file methodand using the JSFL script to achieve automatic packaging, which reduces the file size; usingBitmap instead of MovieClip to achieve animation material, which improve the efficiency ofthe CPU; setting different rendering distances for objects of different sizes, removing objectsthat shouldn’t be displayed from the rendering process, which improves rendering efficiency, and makes objects dynamically displaying more natural and reasonable. In short, this paperproposes a valuable approach to implement an online virtual exhibition.
