With the internationalization and globalization of food supply, therapid increase of supply chain and factors are coming, followed by thefactors in insecurity. Because the insecure factors are throughout theentire life cycle of food, from production to processing, packaging,storage, transportation and sale of the entire process, in recent years,domestic and international food safety crises have occurred frequently,affecting peoples health and social stability. Food safety issues causewidespread concern in the world; consumers need a secure frameworkfor food traceability system to ensure the security of various aspects offood in production, processing, distribution and so on. Establishing safeand reliable food traceability system becomes an important means forfood safety management.This paper mainly studies the food traceability system based onmiddleware module. In a safe and reliable food traceability system,radio frequency identification technology and the design ofmiddleware module are the key technologies, therefore the studying ofradio frequency identification technology and middleware technologyhave an important significance.In order to understand the food traceability system better, thispaper studies the development status on food safety issues in domesticand international background. And then it analyzes the keytechnologies of radio frequency identification and communicationbetween the electronic label and reader. Also it researches andconcludes the application of food traceability system during the WorldExpo. These works build a stable foundation for a better understandingof radio frequency identification technology and building foodtraceability system.Because of many advantages of RFID technology, the application of RFID becomes more widely in food safety traceability.However, RFID labels and readers are not compatible and diversity, thedata structures of the enterprises in traceability chain are different, thetraditional information sharing has a certain limitation. These issuesrestrict the further development for RFID technology in various aspectsof food safety traceability system in a certain extent. The emergence ofRFID middleware solves these problems, which can mask the differenceof data structures between different hardware and provide real-timesharing of event information. It has become the most useful weaponthat solves the obstacles of RFID development. Based on thisarchitecture to build food safety traceability system, we can reduce theput of RFID applications and maintenance costs for food companies;also can ensure real-time and effective sharing of information intraceability chain in various aspects.Based on the development background of middleware, thispaper improves layered RFID middleware architecture, and designsmiddleware model on hierarchy that used in traceability system. Themiddleware on hierarchy shields the differences of different devices,manages distributed reader equipments together, according to certainprotocol filtering rules, it can filter redundant data; on the basis of these,this paper extracts the semantic information, enhance the capability ofhandle complex event; using publish-subscribe model can also shareinformation timely and effectively.Finally, the paper gives the basic idea of the design for foodmanagement, designs and implements the functions of themanagement of food out of warehouse and using handheld device totrace the food. Each food is affixed unique RFID label encoded ID intraceability chain. By the operation of import and export of thewarehouse, electronic label and RFID reader exchange and transferinformation in food production, processing, transportation, sales and other links. Connected with the database, automatic transmission ofinformation replaces the operations of manually recording the work offood import and export of the warehouse. And the middleware modelcan identify different types of RFID labels without changing the datastructure and the interface design. We only need the ID number fromthe RFID to check various types of food information on the terminalmachine, and this method is safer and more efficient for managementof food safety issues.
