With the development of mobile terminals, especially the emergence of smart phoneslike iPhone and Android terminals, it is becoming increasingly easy for people to enjoyelectronic games anywhere anytime. Compared to traditional PC, due to the limitation ofsmart phones on factors like performance and configuration, their requirement for gamedevelopment technologies is more demanding.In this thesis, I design and implement the pet collection game, a casual puzzle game forAndroid. The development is done using libGDX, an Android game engine based on OpenGLES technology. The two versions of the pet collection game are realized with Androidapplication framework and libGDX game development framework, respectively.The main content of this thesis is as follows. Chapter I introduces the background ofmobile game research. Chapter II describes the key technologies of Android gamedevelopment on Android application framework and libGDX game development framework,respectively. Chapter III elaborates the overall design and functional modules of the Androidpet collection game. Chapter IV offers an in-depth study of the resource management moduleof libGDX game development framework, and proposes the resource recovery mechanism toaddress its shortcomings. Chapter V tests the system and validates the resource recoverymechanism.The highlight of this thesis lies in the study of libGDX. In particular, through thedevelopment of the pet collection game, I analyze the advantages of libGDX in the Androidgame development and make the corresponding recommendations. In the meantime, toaddress the weakness of resource management of libGDX, I propose the solution of resourcerecovery mechanism for libGDX. Finally, experiments are carried out to test and compare thetwo versions of the game. The experimental results not only validate the analysis of libGDX,but also confirm the efficacy of the proposed solution of resource recovery, which brings thegame performance into full play in low-end mobile phones.
