Compared with unite antennas, array antennas have the characteristics of beamforming, main lobe scan and low sidelobe in radio systems. Array antennas are used in almost all modern radio subsystems to complete the transmission of electromagnetic signals. This dissertation studies the radiation and scattering analyses of array antennas, including:1. The background and recent progress of the radiation and scattering characteristics of array antennas are introduced, and then the analysis methods are summarized.2. The active element pattern (AEP) method was introduced to analyze the radiation characteristics of arrays. Based on the AEP method, the element-varying (EV) active element factor (AEF) method is proposed to solve scattering problem of arrays. Taking the effects of element coupling and array environmental impact into account, the two methods can divide a large array problem into a superposition of various simplified subarray problems. Therefore, the large array problems can be solved free from the computer hardware limitation.3. The AEP method and commercial simulation software HFSS are combined to calculate the radiation characteristics of a one-dimensional array and conformal array. The steps of how to use the AEP method to analyze the problems of arrays are given.4. The scattering characteristics of arrays are analyzed by using the EV-AEF method and commercial simulation software FEKO. While arrays are illuminated by a vertical and oblique incident plane wave respectively, scattering characteristics of finite one-dimensional and two-dimensional arrays in finite ground plane are calculated. Moreover, in order to determine the number of subarray, the relationship between the current distribution periodicity of an array and incidence angle is analyzed when the oblique plane wave is adopted. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method are verified through the numerical examples.
