University paper database servesd as a part of construction of featured librarydatabase, emphasie on providing better service for the management of researchdissertations and academic papers for college faculty and staff as well as other relatedwork. In recent years, confronted with increasing number of electronic version of theacademic papers and emergence of a large number of electronic " original texts " alongwith the continuous development of computer network technology, the traditionalapproach to thesis collection, preservation, management and novelty search has beenincreasingly unable to keep up with fast and efficient pace of the information era.This thesis with study of construction and realization of paper database, based onthe in-depth analysis of necessity and feasibility of costruiting paper database, is toconstruct and realize the college thesis database system by adopting the three-tierprinciple of net with the aim of addressing the problems listed above. Its main contentsare as follows:1. This paper, based on the actual work and today’s general setting of theconstruction of digital library and featured database in colleges and universities,expounds the purpose and significance of construction of thesis database of colleges anduniversities from the comparative analysis of traditional paper collection, preservation,management and novelty search respectively.2. The thesis gives detailed analysis of system requirements attached a flow chartof the system. The system is mainly to realize mutual construction and sharing of papersand academic works among universities and research institutes. Requirementdescription is conducted from general requirements and major functional structure.While support information is explained.3. The theis illustrates general of paper database system in detail. The outlinedesign of the system includes overall design, details of system structure and moduledesign. Module design chiefly includes (1) functional description and decomposition oflogin module;(2) Submit (paper submitting module);(3) check (paper auditingmodule);(4) Query Paper search module;(5) Report (retrieval report Print module);(6) manage (system management module); interface design is subdivided into design f or the external interface and internal interface; error design.4. Database should provide abundant retrieval capabilities and issue retrieval reportwhich is available for scientific research workers to share. Abundant related informationshould be provided in submitting papers. Since complex relationships exist amongdiverse information with more than one collection links, abstracts and involvements ofmulti-disciplines within a paper, it is necessary to use relational database approach inthe design of paper database system. Firstly, a summary sheet should be developed asummary;Secondly, fields in each sheet and their constraints should be developed,including Thesis (thesis information form), Searcher (papers included in the indextable), Subject (discipline table the paper involved in), Abstract (abstract table), Link(thesis resource link table), Contain (index relationship table of thesis) Thesis_Subject(relationship table of papers and disciplines), the Users (table of users withadministrative privileges), the Department (table of general department users); Lastly,E-R diagram of paper database system is attached.5.
