As one of the important branches of Intelligent Transportation System, theVehicle Navigation System involves a number of computers and relevant professionalexpertise. Radio communications technology, multimedia technology, databasetechnology, Geographic Information System technology and discrete mathematicstechnology are included. To provide fast and accurate location information and relatednavigation information for the driver is the primary role of the Vehicle NavigationSystem. The Vehicle Navigation System plays an important role in improving thesituation of China’s urban transportation, improving traffic safety, enhancing the usingrate of urban road traffic and reducing the occurrence of urban traffic congestion.This paper is based on the existing function of Vehicle Navigation Systems. Itcombines computer and related expertise, such as virtual reality technology, databasetechnology, Geographic Information System knowledge, to develop a three-dimensionalsimulation of Vehicle Navigation Systems. According to the real world’s geographicinformation, the system can use computer to make a virtual three-dimensional display.The Vehicle Navigation System can do navigation operations in this virtualenvironment. One of the advantages of this system is that before a real VehicleNavigation System is put into use in the real world, we can test the algorithms andfunctions of the Vehicle Navigation System in a virtual environment, so that the VehicleNavigation System will be more complete and more secure. The paper is based on theidea of software engineering. We make analysis of basic functions of the presentVehicle Navigation Systems, and propose a three-dimensional space VehicleNavigation Systems solution. Through needs analysis, feasibility analysis, outlinedesign, detailed design, system implementation and testing, we realize the system’sbasic functions. The system’s basic functions include modeling a virtualthree-dimensional scene, navigation, and so on. The main idea of this paper is thelife-cycle idea in software engineering. The main computer technology we use in thispaper includes the3D modeling technology, database technology, VC++technology, OpenGL technology and the path algorithm.The three-dimensional scene data is from the real world. The system can providenavigation function, voice prompts function, two-dimensional map function, theshortest path function and track function.
