With the development of electronic technology, electronic devices areapplied in many industries. Electronic devices develop towards to highintegration, miniaturization of size, increase of power consumption, which cause heatflux rise sharply among the devices, bringing to damage to them, reducing reliability ofthem, resulting to failure of electronic equipment. The thermal problem of electronicdevices has become a critical problem in thermal design, especially in the thermaldesign of printed circuit board (PCB). At present, there is not a mature and systematictheory or method to solve the layout problems of electronic components on PCBeffectively.At present, it has been studied a lot of combinatorial optimization problem andmade great achievements. It has been put forward a variety of optimization algorithms,including many intelligent algorithm. The ant algorithm has strong robustness, parallelcomputation, positive feedback mechanisms, etc, offering an effective way to solve suchproblems. The maximum and minimum ant algorithms (MMAS) avoids the drawback ofconvergence too early contract with the basic ant algorithm. We use the MMAS tooptimize the layout of electronic components on PCB.In this paper, we take the physical model of electronic components on PCB as forstudy under the natural convection condition. The main contents are as follows:1. Use the micro-body heat balance method to construct the mathematical model tosolve the steady-state temperature of electronic components, and compute thetemperature of these electronic components.2. Create a simulation model of the study object by ANSYS to simulate thesteady-state temperature of electronic components, so as to verify whether themathematical model is reasonable.3. Apply the MMAS to optimize the layout of electronic components on the PCBand gain the reasonable layout arrangement.4. Re-conduct the simulation model of new layout and compute the temperature, and use mathematical methods to get the temperature too.The comparison between the results verifies the validity of the MMAS for layoutoptimization of the electronic components.
