CMOS smart camera is widely used in the fields of calibration, bar codes’and character’s recognition in the industrial production line. An ethernet smart camera platform based on CMOS and DSP is presented in this dissertation against the difficult in loading and unloading, complex structure and larger size of the traditional PC machine vision systems. The system is highly integrated with image acquisition, storage, processing and communication functions. The micro-processor in this system has been ported to the μClinux operating system. And the human-computer interaction application software has been installed. Therefore, an easy, multi-functional, highly integrated, portable and high reliability micro machine vision solution has been provided.In this dissertation, the hardware and software design of CMOS smart camera has been primarily introduced. In hardware design, the design of system hardware modules has been mainly illustrated, including the main circuit modules of CMOS acquisition, PPI interface, SDRAM image storage, ethernet transmission, serial peripheral interface (SPI), UART interface, the system clock, global reset, power supply and voltage regulation. Also some important devices’parameters have been optimized. In software design, the software design works, such as system various modules’ hardware programming, μClinux compiling and porting operation, system application development, etc, have been focus on.Smart camera platform mentioned in this thesis includes the function modules of a CMOS image capture lens, SDRAM image storage, the ethernet transmission and ADSP main processor controlling, etc. About the reports of the ethernet smart camera based on CMOS and DSP in our country, the fully integrated hardware platform from other countrys has been most purchased, the specific software package has been only used, and the actual work is only some software validation and a little of algorithm processing. Because of the fixed integrated hardware platform and the specific software package, the modifications of the system signal transmission mode, data formats, algorithm processing, transmission speed, etc, and the functional extensions of camera have been difficult. Based on the chip, the underlying hardware and software design of the smart camera platform has been completed. And the ethernet smart camera based on CMOS and DSP has been successfully designed:based on the image sensor chip MT9V022, CMOS image capture lens has been developed, and is responsible for the front image acquisition; based on the main processor chip ADSP-BF537, the processor control platform has been designed, and is responsible for image storage, processing, transmission and ethernet communications, etc; In the processor control platform, the μClinux operating system has been ported and the application software has been successfully designed; the resolution of its monochrome images is750×480and the frame rate is up to40fps(frames per second), that are fully competent for industrial measurement, such as the optical character recognition, the barcode recognition, etc. Because of the camera underlying development, the hardware architecture and software design can be flexible to change, and the use of this camera and system upgrades would be convenient. Also the developing efficiency of system can be improved, so that the CMOS smart camera would be widely used in the fields of industrial control and machine vision. To our knowledge, the ethernet smart camera based on CMOS and DSP, that is successfully developed based on the underlying chip, has been less reported in our country.
