| Our society is filled with exploding information nowadays. The development of Internet and computer technology imposes a huge impact on the information industry. Modern technology facilitates the manufacture and dissemination of information, makes information widespread easily and simplifies the retrieval of useful information. Journals are one of the most important means by which information is carried and disseminated. In the past, manuscripts needed to go through lots of typesetting, several rounds of proofreading, film-making and printing to evolve into its final form published on a journal. Great labor was devoted to typesetting and proofreading process, which meaned prone to error, low accuracy and long production cycles. Print version also slowed down information dissemination, limited the scope of readers and complicated the filtering of useful information.Our study bases on developing web-based automatic typesetting platform. This platform aims to improve the quality of typesetting and proofreading, reduce production cycle and cut down production costs. This platform provides a way to access and review manuscripts easily and efficiently which is immune to time and geographical constraints. Supervisors could easily monitor typesetting process and progress, and they could conveniently make query and do statistics of the labor and calculate production costs through this platform. This platform also simplifies task allocation and management.The interactive network typesetting platform of our study provides easy-to-use manuscript uploading functionality for editorial department across the country through B/S model, which renders typesetting process independent of geographical restrictions. This platform was designed in accordance with the demand of journal production process. Different kinds of journal is distributed to the right post for processing through their unique needs. This platform is optimized for network typesetting needs and at the same time compatible with traditional typesetting. Task recognition process between rounds of proofreading is automated which greatly saved human labor. Several other posts are also automated to make efficient and accurate alternative to human labor. This platform provides complete query, monitoring, and statistical functions. This platform supports multi-angle, multi-role permission management.Our study is based on the open source Eclipse development platform and the stable Struts2framework technology. Front ends makes heavy use of the popular aesthetic Ext JS framework. Back ends employs Microsoft’s SQL Server database. This platform has friendly and concise interface, good operability, and stable performance. |
