In the face of the fierce market competition and the challenges of the new century globalized economy, especially China will communicate to the international faster due to the accession to the WTO, the petroleum machinery and equipment manufacturing industry will face unprecedented international competition. According to the national "Eleventh Five-year Plan" of the enterprise information requirements, in order to participate in the market competition more effectively, the SMEs need to increase investment in science and technology, speed up innovation of science and technology, through the information system construction, and improve the enterprise’s competition ability constantly.Firstly, the paper describes the concept and characteristics of ERP, the application of ERP in domestic equipment manufacturing industry as well as problems and difficulties encountered in the process of building information system in China’s equipment manufacturing industry; then, analyzes the current situation of Beijing Petroleum Machinery Company (abbr. BPM) against the background of ERP project and with the guidance of modern design and implementation of ERP. The analysis highlights technology management, sales management, procurement management, production management, and inventory management. Based on the detailed analysis, it completes ERP business management module design work and draws out the data flow and relationship diagram of technology management, sales management, procurement management, production management, and inventory management. Finally, it displays BPM ERP’s implementation process, and makes a conclusion for the whole paper and proposes a possible direction for the future work.BPM has achieved relatively great success on ERP project implementation. It has established uniform coding system, realized the comprehensive modules online for "purchase, inventory, sales, production, ARAP, cost management" etc. and preliminarily realized "three-to-one" stage goal of products flow, information flow, and capital flow, as a strong support for enhancing of BPM management level.
