With the rapid development of sensor technology, computer vision has begun to penetrate into the field of the medicine, urban transportation, video surveillance, robot vision and so on. The traditional image capture device of which the field of view is narrow could not meet the demand of macro information of the whole scene, but panoramic vision can achieve a comprehensive capture of the scene information. The application technology of panoramic vision is maturing, such as3D virtual reality, robot navigation, video surveillance and so on. But the panoramic application system using integrated architecture, which includes capture and processing device, is not suitable for a lot of application environment. Distributed system architecture is able to overcome the bulky size, poor portability and poor installation flexibility, and is suitable for mobile and remote application. The work of the video capturing front-end not only is video capture but also is panoramic video pre-processing, which includes panoramic video unwrapping, video compression and video object extraction and provides the back-end processing and control system with support.The research subject of this article is the key technology for the panoramic video processing system. The omni-directional vision sensor (ODVS) is used to capture the panoramic video and the dual-core platform ARM+DSP of TI’s DaVinvi technology is used to implement the key technology of the processing algorithm.The major work done includes the following aspects:1. The research work on panoramic unwrapping algorithm. The fast unwrapping algorithm is implemented by the lookup table combined with the traditional ray tracing method and the concentric circles method. By analyzing the non-linear characteristic of radial of the ray tracing method, the non-linear concentric circles unwrapping method is implemented. Finally, the lookup table is reduced to the one eighth of the original design by the Eight Direction Symmetry Reuse Strategy.2. Design display mode of the panoramic vision processing system. An important task of panoramic vision processing system is panoramic video unwrapping. In order to facilitate the viewer on the back-end a variety of view modes are designed, including columnar unwrapping, two split-screen, four split-screen, five split-screen, enlarging and other view mode providing the back-end processing with a variety of video source.3. The implementation of the algorithm based on DaVinci platform. The key processing algorithms include panoramic video preprocessing algorithm and video compression algorithm. The algorithms are firstly transplanted onto the DaVinci dual-core platform, secondly optimized. Lastly let the algorithms are compliant with the algorithm standard of the platform.
