With the rapid development of TV media, compatibility and over-lap of TV programs have become significant. Dating shows are popular because of their aspects of service, entertainment and culture, which are the result of social progress, media development and change in value system.Dating shows reveal many relationships, such as with man, with society and with the media. This paper tries to define dating shows in the critical angle, using theories and methods of media ecology through their development and characteristics. Through the analysis of niche, time, space and nutrition aspects of dating shows investigated in the media ecology, through which background and behavior of existence, competition of the species and the limited resources, co-existence and self-evolution are analyzed. For their positive and negative influences, the latter are criticized. The problems are the eco-crisis such programs are facing, and counterstrategies are put forward in the process of rational criticism.In their time niche, most dating shows choose to avoid news programs and TV plays of local TV stations, but some do not. In space, dating shows take up sound and picture channels, merging many transmission passages, not only traditional programs, but computer networks, thus greatly expanded. Function niche:dating shows use sound and picture information for visual resources with cultural elements to reveal social culture to the audience. Nutrition niche:dating shows to the audience is concentrated in the age group15to54, the audience of35~54are the major target group. Ad resources: at present, such programs are named under mobile phones, electrical appliances and family commodities.Tolerated by government policies, dating shows satisfy the need of social psychology, and bring economic benefits to TV media. Competition, co-existence and self-evolution are realized.In their competition, dating shows promote co-existence of the audience, programs and advertisers, guests and programs, during which self-adjustment is carried out for balance in the circle. Pollution has been a serious problem of dating shows concerned by the audience and scholars for its great social influence, which has promoted the growth of new media species and the ability for self-adjustment. In the mean time, negative effects of dating shows should not be neglected, such as over-occupation of space and corruption of TV media ethnics.Counterstrategies are put forward in regard to co-nature, over-entertainment and insufficient guest resource for dating shows in the way of concept innovation, evaluation mechanism, professional ethnics, spread of advanced culture and government regulation.
