With the improvement of mobile information technology and the popularity of mobilephone, the demand for wireless mobile applications would be growing. At present, the subwaylines in Xi’an have begun to be built and operated, people should get more information aboutsubway lines through various means when they have a convenient transport. Rather thanconventional paper maps and the internet, people would like to get information from thephone whenever and wherever as possible. In order to meet this demand, and based on theanalysis of the development situation of the mobile development platform and image formats, the paper has designed and developed the Subway Station Query System based on the JavaME platform and the SVG format.Combining the Java ME technology and the characteristics of the SVG technology, thepaper designed the whole structure of the system and completed the development of the wholesystem via the practical application. Firstly, the paper designed Xi’an Subway Map based onSVG according to the characteristics of the distribution of the Terrain and Subway Lines inXi’an, which included the design of the basic graphics, the graphic class and theorganizational structure of map data. Moreover, it studied the method of extracting graphicaldata from the bitmap, put forward the key points of processing SVGT document data based onthe analysis of some problems in the initial SVG document changed from the bitmap, andrealized the graphics transformation of the bitmap to the SVGT-map. Secondly, according tothe demand analysis of the system function, the paper completed the design of basic functions, such as map zoom, map roam, layer-control, station query, system reset and so on. In addition,it carried out the design of the system interfaces according to the different functions, whichincluded the main system interface, the line display interface, station query interface and helpscreen. Finally, the paper was successful to load the SVGT-map on the Java ME platform andrealize the basic functions of the system via programming. The system had the incomparableadvantages compared with the traditional graphics applications. If successfully applied, itwould make the trip more convenient for the users and included much more importantsignificance to the development of urban traffic information service.
