| Mobile communication has been proved to be the fastest growing communication technology ever, and it is becoming an indispensable symbol in people’s lives. More and more people come to realize the negative effects of mobile phones while enjoying its convenience. Mobility is the most basic characteristic of the mobile phones, on the foundation of which field switching is building. This study contributes to the growing number of studies on interspace in three aspects:1) inducing the basic attributes and characteristics of the interspace;2) exploring the internal communicating process;3) examine the effects of field switching on people’s psychological health. This study is composed of two sub-studies. First, I use the transactional theory of stress to construct Theoretical Model through literature review, which reveals that the evaluation of field switching is a mediator between the attributes of field switching, coping resources, contextual variables and psychological health. Second, study1uses the questionnaire survey to get quantitative data and constructs Quantitative Model which is different from Theoretical Model by SEM. The model verifies some of the research hypothesis but adds a causal relationship between the coping resources. And it also shows the significant difference between work interspace and life interspace. Third, study2accepts a qualitative research method to explore the reasons of the difference between Quantitative Model and Theoretical Model. After then, Qualitative Model is built on the results of content analysis by using coded maps, which contributes to provide a complement to Theoretical Model and interpretation of Quantitative Model. It also identifies the four dimensions and its internal relationship between of the mediated variables related to field switching. Finally, I compare three models with three theoretical framework such as the transactional theory of stress, and integrated them into one model ultimately which is named Unified Model. The model establishes a three-level waterfall model, which includes independent variables (such as coping resources, the attributes of field switching, contextual variables, conversations, etc.), mediated variables (such as the cognition of field switching, the attitude to field switching, etc.) and dependent variables (such as psychological health, etc.). In addition, as a study on conceptualization of the interspace, this study also summarized its properties, key factors and difference between work interspace and life interspace. |
