High Dynamic Range Image (HDRI), whose pixel value is proportional to the true radiance of scene’s, is a kind of image that can represent a wide range of scene’s luminance. Now, HDRI is widely used in many domains, such as digital photography, image-based illumination technology, image-based modeling, and virtual reality. Based on the results of image alignment, a method for compositing multiple photographs into a high dynamic range image in HSI color space is proposed.First, a simple and fast method for aligning images is studied. As the ordinary edge detection algorithm is very sensitive to exposure, the median binary method is used to extract images’ edge information; then a pyramid sequence of binary image is constructed to improve the aligning speed. Based on the results of shift-alignment and rotation-alignment, a method for compositing multiple images into a high dynamic range image in HSI color space is proposed. Since only the luminance component exist response curve, it can greatly improve the synthesis efficiency.An article of high dynamic range image composition software has been exploited based on the above-mentioned methods. It can realize image alignment, high dynamic range image composition by four different methods.
