TDOA passive location and tracking is a signal processing technology forestimating the information (such as position, velocity and acceleration) of an objectiveemitter. In modern electronic war (EW), TDOA location and tracking using datacollected from passive sensors becomes a key point of Electronic Intelligence (ELINT)and Electronic Support Measure (ESM). The performance of these estimation resultshas an essential influence on EW.First, this paper presents an introduction to the principle of TDOA location andalgorithms. The approaches, termed Chan and Taylor-series expansion, are analyzed indetail. Simulation results illustrate the impact of TDOA measurement error andmeasurement-station location error on location accuracy. And the optimum stationdistribution style based on target direction is proposed. In addition, maneuvering targettracking model is analyzed. The tracking performance of Extended Kalman Filter(EKF)is simulated under Singer model and IMM model. Furthermore, nonlinear filteringalgorithms, such as EKF, Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) and Particle Filter (PF), aredemonstrated and compared for performance study. Finally, a CV+Singer model isproposed for3D maneuvering target tracking. According to the comparison simulationwith CV+nCT model, the CV+Singer model avoids the estimation of unknownparameters in CT model, and has an ideal tracking performance.
