The Research Of Software Quality Management For Maersk Project In Company A

The quality of software development is a serious issue for all IT outsourcing companies in China. According to the report from Mercury and Economist Intelligence Unit, there are over77%Chinese IT outsourcing company cannot fulfill the expected quality of software development. The low quality of software projects will affect not only the company, but also cause the serious damage to the entire IT outsourcing industry. Concerning the possible damage, it is indeed to have some appropriate solution to solve the quality issues for software development.Appeon (Shenzhen) Software Development Inc.(In short form, we call it Company A) will be the target company. It is a leading software produce developer and IT service outsourcing company. As today, Maersk Tanker project is the biggest outsourcing project within the company. After the project is kicked off for one and half year, there are a lots of project management issues are affecting the project itself. Especially the quality of software development issues, it is including:Firstly, the quality of business requirement is not accurate for development team to analysis. Secondly, the architecture of the Maersk Tramos system is out-dated. Thirdly, the flow of software development and testing has to be optimized and standardize. Lastly, there are some comment shortages as other international IT outsourcing company that the English skill for development team is poor. In order to analyze the quality problems for Maersk project, this research used the theory of Six Sigma model to make the process of quality-centric better for business requirements. It also uses Total Quality Management (TQM) to suggest an optimization solution for the flow of development and testing flow. Based on CMMI modeling, it required better standard for all project phases, and the standard is required to be optimized.With the appropriate solution design, this research summarizes some necessary implementation steps to solve the software development issues. When receiving business requirements, ensure the requirements are correct and unitary. It is a good practice to make a prototype for client to have an overview of the system. When in the development and testing phases, the project needs necessary coding and testing standard. It also provide approaches to encourage the entire team to improve English skills, so that to fulfill client’s expectation and company needs.The objective for this research is to analyze the software development quality for Maersk project in Company A; realize the importance of software quality control and management; make an appropriate standard for quality measurement. With the solutions and methods, Company A can use the lowest resource and cost to optimize the quality for Maersk project.
