Arctic sea ice area as an important part of the global climate system. Its changessignificantly affect the intensity and extent of the Arctic cold. In recent years, Arcticsea ice extent and thickness had dramatically changed and had a profound impact inthe our country and global climate. How to obtain the physical properties parametersof polar sea ice, data of sea-ice extent and changes has became the basis ofresearching on polar climate. Moreover, according to the polar regions of the locationand environmental characteristics, the need to achieve unattended, all-weather,all-time long-term continuous observation in harsh environments. Polar satellitetracking buoys will naturally become an important means of monitoring weather andmarine environment in the polar area. Therefore, the study of Arctic ice buoys basedon the Argos system in the polar area has a reference value for application on Chineseextensive climate monitoring. The overall design of the buoy contains hardware and software design aspects. This buoy is controlled by STC12C5A60S2Series MCU, the core part is a platformmessage transceiver of the Argos system (PMT).Buoys establishes communicationswith the satellite through the PMT. The buoys also loaded with temperature sensorsand a GPS receiver. Main function is to collect the temperature of the Arctic sea ice, drift trajectories and data acquisition time, then buoys is sent these datasets to thesatellite through the PMT. In the buoy hardware design process, all components havean overall layout with Protel99SE software, then rigid. Software design using theKeil-51programming software, this program includes three modules: the initializationmodule, data acquisition module, the communication module with the PMT.Processing of a large number of data return from satellite used Origin7.5software.That has drawn out the sea ice temperature and air temperature curve, and sea ice drifttrajectory curve these were obtained by the buoys during the seven months of work inthe arctic, this software made the results of the analysis became more convenient andsimple. This thesis mainly concerns the Argos Satellite communication System, thecauses of choosing the Argos system on the buoy as the Arctic ice buoycommunication system, features and functions of PMT, Arctic ice buoy circuitdesign,Battery pack options and software design, working principle and features.
