In order to meet the requirements for the future mobile communications, the Third GenerationPartnership Project3GPP started for LTE-Advanced project. Two key techniques, OFDM andMIMO, were introduced into the project. MIMO provides great potential for improvement of thetransmission performance and spectrum efficiency of LTE system. However, in multi-antennacellular systems, ICI(Inter-Cell Interference) seriously limits system performance which isimproved by MIMO. As cooperative multi-cell technology can effectively suppress the ICI andimprove the system spectral efficiency, it is an important component of the LTE-Advancedtechnology. Therefore, it’s important to do further research on the design of multi-cell cooperativedetection algorithm with low complexity and high performance.Compared with traditional single-cell multi-user MIMO system, multi-cell systems with antennageographically dispersed have many potential advantages, but also give rise to a lot of problems.The first problem is about base station cooperation. To achieve the overall optimization of thesystem performance, information feedback between the base stations needs to be as low as possible.Secondly, there is also a need to focus on designing the detection algorithm with low complexityand high-performance. In response to these issues, starting from the base station capacity and thepotential advantages of the multi-cell cooperation, this article focuses on cooperative approachs ofuplink. And then a new uplink detection algorithm based on combined MMSE and ML is proposedafter researching on basic single-cell multi-user detection algorithm. This algorithm can be appliedto a variety kinds of base station cooperation and can obtain better performance under acceptablecomplexity.
