In the information era, aeronautical means has significantly broadened the access to get useful information, which is drawing lots of national attentions. However, the satellite vibration has greatly hindered the development of high-resolution remote sensing imaging. Due to the characteristics such as high cost, complicated technology, and unrecoverable use and so on, the satellite’s all-round performance should be mastered during its design phase. Therefore, it’s a very meaningful work to quantify the extent of image degradation caused by satellite vibration, which can give the satellite design a reliable guidance.Firstly, the background of the high-resolution ground imaging technology has been researched. The development status of vibratory degradation in remote sensing imaging field in home and abroad has been summarized. The remote sensing imaging environment composed of satellite orbit, imaging sensors and satellite platform vibration is clearly described and then the high-resolution earth observation satellite shows it course of the development. Then, the concept of image quality assessment, whose specific methods including subjective ones, objective ones and MTF are explained in a follow, has been introduced. According to the particular imaging process, remote sensing imaging simulation has been divided into several modules, and then the satellite vibration module has been individually extracted to study. Mathematical models based on the vibratory imaging process taken by both the CCD camera and TDI camera have been established and the relating software called OISSV has been developed. Degradation images photographed by the two types of cameras mentioned above can be easily simulated by OISSV and the offered image evaluation methods including SSIM, PSNR, MSE and MTF can help the users to give the vibration parameters a reasonable judgment. To four kinds of typical satellite orbit, we use OISSV to get the simulation results and do some corresponding analysis. To verify the reliability of the proposed theoretical analysis, a properly designed semi-physical simulation system has been built. Loading a certain vibration parameter as the vibration source, the system can get a simulated degraded image. Using MTF to measure image quality, the images calculated from the simulation model and obtained by the semi-physical system present a good agreement, which verifies the accuracy and practical applicability of the proposed theoretical analysis.Designing optical imaging simulation software for satellite vibration and giving the image degradation caused by satellite vibration a quantitative analysis makes satellite design more convenient, which is very helpful for those relative experts. The verification for the derived basic theoretical model casted by the built semi-physical simulation system has offered the developed software practical value.
