The Effect Of Copyright Protection On Traditional Publishing Industry In China:Theoretical And Empirical Study

After years of sustained high growth, the traditional publishing industry in China has developed into a certain scale of industry. However, this process is also accompanied by many problems. The most serious problem of them is copyright infringement which is caused by the lack of copyright protection. Previous domestic research either estimated national or regional copyright protection strength, either used qualitative description or statistical description to analysis the affect of copyright protection on the traditional publishing industry.In this case, estimating copyright protection strength scientifically, and then using standardized quantitative analysis method to study its impact of the traditional publishing industry is very necessary.This paper studies China’s copyright protection and the traditional publishing industry. Constructs a relatively complete index system to assess the copyright protection strength; Uses a theoretical model to analyze copyright protection’s influence on the traditional publishing industry; tests the conclusion of the model through analytical method.The analysis shows the results as follow. The strength of copyright protection has positive effect on the production and profits of traditional publishing industry, yet its marginal effect is diminishing. Legislative strength has positive effect on the production and profits of traditional publishing industry. Law enforcement strength has positive effect on the production and profits of traditional publishing industry, however the degree of impact on production is not significant, the degree of impact on profits is forcefully with an increasing marginal effect. Finally, this paper concludes with targeted suggestions and also makes a reflection on the study.
