Fiber communication systems have become more and more important with the coming of the Information Age. Wireless connections and broadband access are widely accepted by the common. Radio over fiber (RoF) technology has attracted much more attention because of its advantages such as low cost and high capacity which combines both the fiber communication technology and the high frequency radio technology. The influence of large signal modulation on UWB signal generation systems is discussed in the first part, while a novel optical transceiver based on the key component of RSOA-EAM, which is transparent to the wavelengths and the protocols, is proposed in the second part in order to research on the signal modulation and transparent optical transceiver based on RoF systems.(1). The influence of large signal modulation on UWB generation systems is discussed firstly. In this paper, the QSSB UWB, Gaussian UWB and two typical UWB generation systems based on phase modulator are introduced and compared theoretically and numerically. And the generated signals and correlation results under different modulation index are studied and simulated. Based on the discussion, it gives out that the QSSB UWB generation system shows more tolerance under large signal modulation compared with the Gaussian UWB generation system and the PM-IM conversion based on the filter shows more tolerance under large signal modulation compared with the PM-IM conversion based on SMF.(2). A novel optical transceiver based on the RSOA-EAM in radio over fiber systems is proposed secondly. The key component RSOA-EAM acts as the role of reflection, amplification, and transparence. Signals are amplified and reflected in RSOA-EAM under different wavelengths and protocols. The performance of erasing information based on gain saturation of RSOA-EAM is discussed experimentally. And the transmission performance of the uplink and downlink of the module are experimented as well. Driver circuit is considered for the RSOA-EAM "s better performance. The optical transceiver module is encapsulated for the first time with its application prospected.Both of the key technology, signal modulation in UWB generation systems and transparent optical transceiver module are further studied theoretically and experimentally. Owing to the researches, questions such as how to select the appropriate modulation index in the UWB generation systems and which UWB generation system has better performance under large signal modulation are answered in this thesis. Besides, the proposed transceiver module is transparent to the optical wavelength and protocols, which is with wide compatibility and easy to update. The integrated transceiver module will be applied widely in various fields since its simple, stable and etc.
