In1995, Nicholas Negroponte, chairman of Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology Media Laboratory, published his new book Being Digital, whichimmediately announced the great potential power of the coming bit information ageto the entirely whole world. From this book, we can easily conclude that nowadaysour survival in daily communication will be determined by the degree of ourdigitalization. Since then, this entirely new art style based on digital technologyhas developed very rapidly both at home and abroad, and also has drawn muchattention of a great many famous experts and scholars all around the world, soonbecoming the favorite art of our new era. In the twenty-first century, we havealready entered a new age of information, which is another meaningful landmarkturning point in our human history. There is no doubt that the information erais based on the fast development of digital technology, because just like inagricultural society, we mainly focused on learning and innovating farmingtechnologies and in industrial society, we mostly depended on researching anddeveloping modern mechanical technologies. In a sense, we have already steppedinto the digital times, but new technologies can more or less make communicationstyle changed greatly with the development of our digital era. The traditionalmode of transmission obviously can not be sufficiently used to explain the newproperties of digital art communication any more. The rapid development of digital technology has caused a new round of mediareformation. The digital art relying on digital media has become the very directbeneficiaries in the digital art communication process. Communication and mediaare constantly blending together, and the distinction of the traditional mass mediamode of transmission has become so minimal in digital communication process thatit plays a negligible role. Languages, words, printings, radios, TVs and othermedia are gradually becoming a united entity of communication in digital era, whilelots of communication channels that were greatly independent in the past havedeveloped into one compact entity of medium, in which Internet medium has been the most typical one in the twenty-first century. Digital images, digital films, digital literature, digital games and other digital art forms are all integratedin this single form of communication, that is, digital art communication. At thesame time, Internet medium has broken the traditional one-way transmission mannerthat we are particularly familiar with, while the interactive communalcommunication manner has become the mainstream in our current digital era. Theboundaries between the two sides are not so clear to define, and the most importantthing is that the gratifications of most common audiences can be largely met byusing digital art communication. Under the double interactions of digital andtraditional communications, digital art is gradually expanding its scope ofservices to achieve the daily requests of more and more users at most. The populartrend that the new digital art is gradually transforming into the atomic art, andthen the atomic art products are putting into the tangible market to communicate, extremely satisfies the demands of massive common audiences who are more reliableon Internet in the twenty-first century, but media and audiences are not the onlyinfluencing factors of the daily effective communication. Digital artcommunication and environment of communication are influencing each othercontinuously in practical fields, especially under the political, economical andcultural conditions. At last, it will be linked with the social background, integrating into market. This paper is mainly devoted to doing the deep and careful research of thegeneral digital art communication system, investigating the new features ofcommunicator, communication media, communication environment, audiences and othercommunication essential elements in digital art communication system. It is aimedto reveal the important properties of digital art communication, summarize themain models and mechanisms of digital art communication, and illustrate themotivations and causes, the propagation distance and velocity, the direction andrange, and the effects of digital art communication. It also explicitly informsus the present complicated relationship of digital art communication and politics, economy, culture, society, geography and other factors, and then logically reflects the cross media interactive communication activities between atomic artand digital art, and the harmonious coexistence of both communication ways. Thefirst part primarily gives us the brief introduction of every essential elementin digital art communication on the whole, that is, the new features ofcommunication environment, communicator, communication media and audiences. Andthe second part is mainly focused on the clear illustration of the main media indigital art communication. The third part systematically summarizes thecommunication models in digital art communication, and draws a safe conclusionon digital art communication system after the serious analysis about communicationfeatures of major digital art communication genres, such as network literature, network games, digital movies and televisions. The research of the most criticalelement in digital art communication, that is, audiences, belongs to part four. The fifth part explains the cross media communication activity of digital artcommunication and atomic art communication, and further investigates therelationship of their harmonious coexistence.
