Hailed as a "prestigious longevity in the Chinese press" by Mr. Fang Hanqi, the authority in academic circles, Ta Kong Daily is a renowned newspaper, with a long history and high reputation since it was founded in1902. Literary Supplement, as part of a newspaper, has played a vital role in the development of Chinese literature. Ta Kong Literary Supplement has published275periods, since it started the first publication on June6,1948and stopped it on December28,1952. Regarded as a distinctive newspaper supplement, Ta Kong Literary Supplement makes a great contribution to the post-war transition of Chinese literature.The thesis mainly focuses on how Hong Kong Ta Kong Literary Supplement accomplished the left-leaning turning, laying emphasis on the progressive works and the writers during different periods and making a penetrating analysis of the reason why it choose leftism since December in1948. What’s more important, in addition to external changes of political landscape, the thesis pay more attention to the individual vicissitudes of the writers against the univocally praiseful and critical creative background, tracing the changes of their inner thought and literary creation. In this way, the thesis represents a marvelous rise of the left-wing intellectuals under the influence of the leadership of the Communist Party in Hong Kong since Hong Kong was liberated in1945. The leftist tendency of Hong Kong literature is quite obvious during that time, when the Hong Kong’s left-wing literature intellectuals take advantage of the creative atmosphere to disseminate and appreciate the spirits of the Mao Zedong’s address, which paves the direct way to the development of the republic’s literature. The supplement provides a united platform for various scripts written by extensive and influential writers, attaching importance to the literariness of literary works and highlighting by its own characteristics and style.As the leader of the literary trends of the literary supplement, Hong Kong Ta Kong Literary Supplement is well-known for its persistent spirits of democracy and independence, developing into a maverick of school of one in the history of the Chinese modern literature, as well as in the history of the Chinese journalism. Still, the left-leaning transition of Hong Kong Ta Kong Literary Supplement is eventually at the mercy of the changes of the political situation in mainland China and moreover, its influence on Hong Kong local literature, to some extent, may be limited.
