There is a distinct economic complementation between China and GCC, in thefields of resources and trade. With the rapid economic development, energy demand ofChina continues to expand, and its external dependence has also increased. To ensureenergy security has become top priority for China. Known as the “oil depot of theworld”, GCC is the center of international energy contention. How to strengthencooperation with GCC, in the aspect of energy source, is particularly important forChina. Since2004, when the CGFTA negotiation has started, rounds of talks has beenheld on issues such as rules of origin, technical barriers to trade, sanitary andphytosanitary measures, economic and technical cooperation. Negotiation on servicetrade has been initiated as well, and massive progress had been made. New round ofstrategic dialogue between China and GCC will be held in China in2012, in whichgreat progress is believed to make. By establishing CGFTA, would it effcet China, GCCand other countries or regions? How would it effcet? In this paper, we use the GTAPmodel to investigate the possible results of the establishment of China-GCC FTAThe paper includes six parts: the first parties the the introduction; The second partdiscusses the theoretical basis of building CGFTA and GTAP model; the third part, wesummarize the state of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the economic and traderelations between China and GCC, then analyses the features of the economic and traderelations, and the basis of establishing CGFTA; The fourth part is the main part of thewhole paper, widely used GTAP model is used to analyze the specific economic effectsof the establishment of China-GCC FTA, from aspects of trade scale, trade structure andthe level of the social welfare of both parties, then the main conclusion has been made;The fifth part is based on the analysis above, we make a comprehensive analysis onthe challenges of building CGFTA, and propose relevant solutions; The sixth part makesa summary of the paper.
