Jingbian County is located in the northern part of Shan’xi Province,in the southwest ofYulin Prefecture, which is a typical semiarid eco-fragile area, has a compalicated topographyand geomorphology, the distribution characteristics is special significantly.From north to south,the landform is followed by sandy land area in north, mountain ridge stream area in centralregion,hilly and gully area in sourth,and the reasons of land use change are complicated,so it issuitable to the study of LUCC. By the research of LUCC of Jingbian County, we can furtherdeepen the study of typical ecological fragile areas, enhance the understanding of land usestructure in Northern Shan’xi, explore a variety of natural and human factors of the regionalimpact of land use change,promote local land use development continuable, and provide ascientific basis for its rational development,utilization of land resources and improve theecological environment.Using remote sensing image and GIS spatial analysis techniques, this paper takes threeTM/ETM+satellite remote sensing images of Jingbian in the years1990,2000and2010as themain data source, combined with the second land survey database results of Jingbian in2009,classes the land use types to6categories: Farmland,forest, grassland, construction land,water area and unused land.Basing on the ERDAS IMAGINE9.2and ArcGIS Desktop9.2software platform, we interpret remote sensing images, obtain land use data for three periodsof the study area.We use the indexs, such as land use dynamic degree, land use importance andland use degree and so on, to analyze the land use change of Jingbian County for nearly20years,and make land use shift matrixes from1990to2000and2000to2010, which are used to investigate the land use/land cover spatial and temporal changes.Driving factors of LUCC areanalyzed by using quantitative and qualitative methods. Finally, we give the reasonablesuggestions to the rational use and the sustainable development of future land of JingbianCounty.The results are:(1) In study period, the number of farmland, forest and construction land is in anincreasing trend, grassland, water area and unused land are in a downward trend, theconstruction land is more prominent of these land types.The land use type is always dominantwith the status of farmland, forest and grassland.(2) We analyse the various types of land use conversion direction and transformation ofsource by land use transition matrix,during1990to2000,the main land transformatiom comefrom forest, grassland converted to farmland, unused land converted to forest and grassland,grassland and farmland is the main source of land for construction; during2000to2010themain land transformatiom come from grassland converted to farmland, forest,construction landand unused land,and unused land converted to forest and grassland,get an initial understandingof a variety of land use types in the mutual conversion process.(3) The land use dynamic degree of a variety of land use types is basically below theregional level in the study area, except the construction land and unused land. The land useimportant degree of farmland, forest and struction land is increased, grassland, water area andunused land is shown as a downward trend; Jingbian County’s land use degree is in forestwater and grass land grade.(4) The main driving forces of the study area of land use change are economicdevelopment, population growth, urbanization, industrial structuring and policy factors, etc.
