The West Queen,as a major goddess in Kunlun mythology system,occupies anvery important place in the ancient Chinese myth. On one level, the West Queenimages in the recorded ancient classics partially response to the life of human being inmatri-clan society. In the next religion documents, folk literature works, novel andplays, the West Queen is gradually converted to a honorable goddess image whokeeps medicine of immortality and orders three green brids to take everything neededfor her from an odd-looking animal or Half-Orc image, and then becomes to Goddessthe Queen Mother,a great and graceful godess image,in the god sistem of the Taoism.The origin,development and folk culture of the West Queen image has been studiedextensively and thoroughly at home and abroad. However,a motivation explorationresearch combines the West Queen image with motiv factors,such as psychology,religion,literature and art,is rarely seen.The research object of the paper is motivational mechanism of the development ofthe West Queen images. Applying mythology,folklore,anthropology and psychologytheories,the paper researches into the impetus of the development of the West Queenimages in the psychological,religional, literary and art perspectives.The paper divides into three parts:The first part is an introduction,which begins with introducting the reasons ofselecting the subject and the significance of the study, and establishes researchobject,contents and methods,and then summarizes the the domestic researches onmotivations of the development of the West Queen images.As the second part,the first chapter explores the origin and development of theWest Queen image. This part points out that the West Queen image originates from thenames of ancient tribes and Totem adoring,is developed in the pre-Qin days, theWestern Han and Eastern Han Dynasties,the Wei and Jin Dynasties,the Tang and SongDynasties, then changes a Half-Orc image to a great goddess in Taoism.The third part is the body of the paper and includes three chapters. The secondchapter analyzes the psychological motivations of the development of the West Queenimages, which is individed into two parts: the aesthetic pursuits and the views ofvaluing life and fearing death. The third part discusses the religional motivations,which contains the populace of humanistic religion and the religious of the Folk Religion. The fouth chapter analyzes the literary and art motivations. This chapterillustrated systematically the influences come from folk literature works, novels,operas, etc.
