Research On The Relationship Between IT Capability And Technological Innovation Performance

Whith the development of information technology (IT), the information economyand knowledge economy is replacing industrial economy, technological innovation isincreasingly becoming the main source of economic growth, industrial developmentand improvement of enterprise competitiveness. In the dynamic market environment,how to use the information technology capability to achieve sustained innovation,which has become the common topics in both academic and business.The relationship between information technology and business technologicalinnovation performance has become a hot research problem, but the limited researchhas not achieved the same conclusion. This article aims to study the relationshipbetween the IT capability and technological innovation performance, and to explorethe regulation of environmental dynamism between them. The dissertation integratesrelated theories like resoure-based view, capability-based view and technologicalinnovation, focuses on the basic research proposition of”how IT capability influenceon technological innovation performance”, firstly, throughly analyzes the mechanismhow IT capability influence technological innovation performance, then analyzes180valid questionaires collected in domestic manufacturing enterprises. During theproeess of data processing, we mainly used exploratory factor analysis (EFA)，confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), correlation analysis and multiple linear regressionto verify hypotheses in the model through the software SPSS17.0. According to theresults of empirical study, there come to some important conclusions as following:(1) Information technology can be devided into IT infrustructure capability, ITapplication capability and IT development capability. Enterprises can understand theirIT capability through the measurement of these three components.(2) IT capability has a significant impact on technological innovationperformance. Specifically, IT infrustructure capability, IT application capability andIT development capability all positively affect product innovation performance. BothIT infrustructure capability and IT application capability have a positive impact on process innovation performance, while IT development capability dose not have asignificant effect on process innovation performance.(3) The environmental dynamism plays a regulatory role between IT capabilityand technological innovation performance. Specifically, environmental dynamismplays a significant positive regulatory role in the relationship between IT applicationcapability and product innovation performance. Meanwhile, the environmentaldynamism also plays a significant positive regulatory role in the relationship betweenIT development capability and product innovation performance. Moreover, theenvironmental dynamism positively regulates the relationship between IT applicationcapability and process innovation performance. The more rapidly environmentchanges, the more obvious positive effect of IT capabilities on produce and processinnovation performance.The results have important guiding significance for Chinese enterprises to buildtheir own IT capabilities，assess the value of the enterprise IT capabilities and usetheir IT capabilities to improve technological innovation performance.
