Owing to China’s reform and opening-up and the change in the policy of foreign fundutilization, foreign-related enterprises are growing vigorously in our country. Marked progresshas been achieved in terms of the number of enterprises and the amount of foreign capitalabsorbed. The enterprises, especially those in coastal provinces with strategic advantages ingeography like Zhejiang, have made great contribution to the economic development and socialharmony of our country. However, it is undeniable that every establishment has to go throughthe experiences from immaturity to maturity. The foreign-related enterprises have brought abouta series of problems such as pollution to the environment, lack of credibility, violation of law, etc. in spite of the contribution that has been made already.SA8000, namely Social Accountability8000, a standard of morality and responsibility, isdeveloped to advance human rights of workers. It is launched by developed countries of Europeand America, and spreads to the rest of the world with great rapidity. It has exerted profoundinfluence on enterprises of our country. On the one hand, the cheap Chinese labor has foundSA8000really helpful, which, in the short run, causes barriers to the developing of Chineseforeign-related enterprises; on the other hand, the implementation of the standard protects theinterest of workers, which, in the long run, is favorable to the enterprises. This thesis, taking theforeign-related enterprises in Zhejiang Province as an example, studies the situation offulfillment of SA8000on the part of those foreign-related enterprises of our country. It analyzesthe influence of SA8000on them from both the positive and the negative perspectives, andsuggests some coping strategies from the aspect of the government, the enterprises and theindustrial associations.
