Study On Spatial Layout Of Rural Settlement Consolidation

Abstract:Recently, there are many problems in land use of rural area, many rural settlements were abandoned, some of them occupied too large area and the distribution is also unreasonable. Land arrangement is an important means of optimizing allocation of land resources in space which could relieve the conflict between human and land and improved the utilization efficiency of rural land resources. As a major part of the arrangement work, how to arrange the settlements, save the limited arable land, convenient the agricultural production and improve the quality of life is becoming more and more significance.The research of rural settlements layout problem includes three aspects. First, determine the area that had to be moved; Second, determine the area that suitable for the layout; Third, in what method could we move the moved type of area to the suitable regions. The first two questions were solved by the division model of rural settlements types, and the third one was handled with the p-Median Model.By considering the natural, socio-economic factors and using principal component analysis, we built two evaluation index systems----the suitability and the limited evaluation index systems of rural settlements. They were used to find out the type of settlements that had to be moved, for they were in harsh natural conditions, lack of productive resources, with poor transport facilities, small-scaled and scattered. At the same time, we also located the suitable regions for moving who had large-scale, good natural conditions and better transport facilities. The two areas were set as the input data of the rural settlements spatial layout model that based on the P-Median Model. The paper improved the P-Median Model, and together with GIS network analysis models, we built rural settlements spatial layout model. With this model, the relocation area and cost between each moved settlements and each suitable region could be calculated, the final layout area was the area that had the minimum cost and suitable size.Based on the study of the rural settlements spatial layout model, this paper picked Chadian Town of Chengdu City as the research area, because this area was a typical shallow hill area with scattered distribution of rural settlements which relatively small in size and had high land arrangement potential. The results showed that the Chadian Town had589settlements of the moved type with a total area of678.49Mu and35suitable regions for moving with a total area of1825.56Mu. By actual survey, the results were correct, and after arranged by this method, the layout pattern of the rural settlements arrangement in Chadian Town would be the ribbon and group pattern. This would support the development of local social and economic better.
