Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co. is the first heavy machine building plantdesigned by China. Over the years, it has supplied over600varieties,7000sets, onemillion tons of heavy machinery to metallurgical, mining, hydro power, energy,communications, aviation, space and nuclear industries and its products have beenexported3000tons of heavy machinery to over twenty countries. Over the decades,Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co., with a glorious history, has filled360technological gaps for the country, and many of its products are first of its kind in thecountry or even in the world. In2011, the beginning year of the12thFive-year plan,sets the goal of50billion Yuan of output value. With large scale and heavy industryas its characteristics, high end products as its goal, integrated equipment as its base,diversification as its direction, and globalization as its pursuit, Taiyuan HeavyMachinery Group Co. aims to develop into a first rate machine building business inthe country, even in the world. This has put special demands of the company todevelop new products according to the need s of the market, expand new markets forits products, to control cost through project management, to lower risks of the market,to strengthen its competitiveness and to achieve leapfrog development of the business.On the basis of the introduction of the principal theories of project management,the paper makes an analysis of the product characteristics and business operation ofthe company, probing into frame of the business organization, the practical operationof business budget, production organization of product projects, cost control, andmanagement of project organization progress. It also analyzes the problems withproduct project management and their causes and on the basis of which proposessome measures for the improvement of its product development management.Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co. should have clear goals of new productdevelopment, transform the new product development project managementorganization, optimize the execution plan for new product development, consummateits stimulus and performance evaluation system for new product development andstrengthen its risk control of project operation. In the end, through analysis of the results of new product development projectmanagement for some products, the paper concludes that wide application of theproject management of new product development is feasible and at the same timepoints out some problems that need to be dealt with special consideration of thepractical situation of Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co.
