Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) Attraction Of Ha Nam Province

Foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction is considered a key economic growth pillar in Vietnam’s national economy. Thanks to great contribution of FDI flow, Vietnam has achieved a high economic growth rate for many years and appeared as a dynamic and renovated country that has drawn attention of the international community.Ha Nam is a Red River Delta province in the north of Vietnam, which is located by the capital city of Hanoi. Despite its favourable geological position and easy transportation, Ha Nam is facing numerous difficulties and challenges. As an agriculture-based economy, Ha Nam was reestablished in1997with a total area of860square kilometers, the second smallest among63provinces and cities nationwide. The province is very poor in terms of natural minerals and tourism services. In comparison with other northern provinces, Ha Nam’s economic growth is slow with low capital income per capita. Local people’s daily lives are still difficult. The province’s budget collection and expenditure unbalance, and still receive support from the central body.To boost its socio-economic development and improve people’s living condition, Ha Nam has focused on attracting more investment sources, especially FDI. Over the past six years, the province’s FDI attraction has gained remarkable achievements that have contributed significantly to boosting its socio-economic development. However, there still remained some shortcomings that need to be addressed by the provincial Party and authorities. Ha Nam should take more practical measures to attract more FDI and increase the effectiveness of this source of capital to serve its cause of socio-economic development in following years.This is the reason why the author selected FDI attraction as a topic of graduation thesis for MA program on social management.The contents of the thesis include:First, posing basic issues on foreign direct investmentSecond, analyzing real situation of FDI attraction in Ha Nam from2005-2010Third, pointing out shortcomings in FDI attraction in Ha NamFourth, proposing measures to overcome shortcomings and increase the effectiveness of FDI attraction in Ha Nam province in following years.
