At present, with the development of remote sensing technology, there are more and moreapplications of remote sensing data. How to extract the information we needed from a largeamount of remote sensing data quickly, accurately and easily has become an importantresearch subject. In the study of remote sensing technology, the most important purpose isdistinguishing various types of surface features through image processing. Many scientificworks have closely relating with remote sensing images classification. As the main analysismethod of remote sensing data, the classification of remote sensing image is very important, especially the research of land use classification.Land is indispensable. Since the20century, with the rapid growth of the population andland’s availability resource becomes less and less, global countries give more attention to landuse status. Along with the development of our country and the high-speed economic, therational use of land resource is becoming more important. Remote sensing has goodtimeliness which can acquire land use situation quickly. Use computer to process remotesensing images to get the information of land use classification, can not only improve theefficiency, but also can provide strong support for future space data mining and knowledgediscovery.Classification of remote sensing images which based on vegetation index, mainly reflectsin distinguishing the vegetation and soil background and has been widely used in land useclassification. By using vegetation index, building index which evolves from vegetation index, and water index, we extract land for construction, bare land, water, farmland, forest fromLandsat TM/ETM+images. Considering technical and economic costs, it’s a simple, convenient and can have a good effect. At last, based on remote sensing images, we designand develop a land use classification system use.NET platform and combine with GDI+. Thesystem can provide land use’s status for related government departments, as a reference theycan use it to make economic strategy.
