SMEs(Small and Medium-sized Enterprises)have became an active force of the national economy in our country, but the difficult financing is the bottleneck which restrain the development of SMEs. In most of scholars opinion, there is a pattern that the big banks provide a loan to large enterprises while small-and-medium sized business runs on the loan lent by small-and-medium sized banks. It is generally acknowledged that big banks prefer provide loans to large enterprises and small-and medium enterprises can only get loans from small-and-medium size banks. In the bank’s structure of China, the leading role is played by big banks. Thus, a lack of nice development of small-and-medium banks becomes an important constraint of small-and-medium enterprise to get the loan. This paper makes a comprehensive introduction to the credit business for SMEs of the Bank of China Gansu Branch, and to draw a conclusion that the SMEs business can also be developed in big banks, moreover, it will be a new point of profit growth for them. This paper first introduces the demarcation and the present situation of SMEs in China, and analyzes the characteristics of loan, explains why the loan is not easy to get, mainly including:its special fund demand, The information unsymmetry between bank and enterprise, the difficulty in mortgage guarantee, the unfit bank inspiriting mechanism, the lack of innovative credit; and the second portion makes a multi-dimensional analysis from the internal developments and external environment to show that to develop SMEs loan business is a strategic choice for BOC Gansu Branch, then introduces the achievement at the current stage; the third portion point at the loan process and the problems and measures in BOC Gansu Branch’s practice. Section four analyzes the innovation ways to develop the SMEs business in our BOC Gansu Branch, including the lead-in, the products and organizational system’s innovation of credit mode. The fifth part provides suggestions for the prospects of trade by the choice of target customer, marketing model, talents training and brand building to BOC Gansu Branch of how to develop credit operations. The analysis of this paper has certain practical significance to the developments of SMEs business and the transition of the company’s financial affairs.
