According to the way of fund raising, fund can be divided into private offering fund and public offering fund. In the recent years, the securities market in our country is coexistence of the private offering fund and public offering fund. The public offering fund as the main body of domestic fund grows and develops. On the other hand, the private offering fund which has not been fully realized is developing fast in the market grey zone.Through the evaluation of fund performance, the market investors fully understand the market performance of the fund, which makes them more rational in investment. In this paper, through a comparative analysis of the private offering fund and public offering fund in different period, we discover their advantages and disadvantages. By using the relatively mature performance evaluation index and model in foreign countries, we get the relevant conclusions on the performance of the private offering fund and public offering fund, and the two types of fund manager’s security selection and market timing ability, and performance persistence. Then we analysis the current situation and problems of them, give some recommendations for their future development.We use three research methods in this paper, which are literature analysis method, statistical method and quantitative analysis method. First, reading the literature on private fund and mutual fund investment performance, summarized the deficiencies of the current domestic and foreign scholars’research. Then collect the performance related data of China’s private offering fund and public offering fund, and makes a preliminary processing. Finally, using SPSS software to analyze the two types of fund in different periods, and draw relevant conclusions.
