In1905, Einstein explained photoelectric effect which is the interactionbetween photons and electrons. As bosons, photons show a lot of excellentadvantages when applying to signal processing. The theoretical and applicationalresearches on the interaction between photons and electrons in nano structure arejust the familiar subject called nanophotonics. The surface plasmons generated bythe interaction between light and metal surface are the electromagnetic wavespropagating along the interface of metal and dielectric. This phenomenon attractslots of attention in the scientific community since the electromagnetic field could beconstrained to subwavelength scale. To date, since the rapidly development ofnanophotonic technology, the devices depended on nanophotonics have been widelyused in many devices. As one of the most impotant devices, the wave guide ofsurface plasmons always called so many attentions. At present, the comparativelyriper wave guides based on the SPPs include nano wire, nano ball and chain, plowgroove, wedge shape and so on. Owing to small bending loss and transmission loss, the dielectric wave guide based on SPPs developing so fast in recent years.Based on the maxwell’s equations and constitutive relations, the frequencycharacteristics of metal in visible spectrum, generating conditions and dispersionrelation of surface plasmon polaritons, and prism coupling method of SPP arerigorously discussed under classical framework. Clear concepts of effectiverefractive index of waveguide, the transmission distance, effective mode area andtransmission loss are given. The relationships between loss, including radiation lossand absorption loss, and SPR peak, including peak width and peak deepth arequantatively analysed. The theoretical study on composite dielectric-loaded SPP (DLSPP) waveguidehas been made though the COMSOL, a precise mutiple-physical fields simulatingsoftware. The distribution of the of the DLSPP waveguide modes were given by thenumerical simulation, the variable curve of the transfer parameters such as theeffective refractive index, transmission distance, area of the mode field were showat the same time. While the cladding structure was introduced into the waveguidestructure, the influence of the refractive index and thickness on the transmissionproperties was studied systematically. The low refractive index cladding dielectricenhanced the transmission of the waveguide. The transmission of the DLSPPwaveguide was discussed with the mental cladding dielectric. The differencebetween transmission mode on two surfaces of the DLSPP wave guide made by twokinds of metals. With the change of proportion of the thickness of metal, the transmission distance and the area of waveguide will show some characters ofhysteresis loop, which has an important significance on the coupling of differentkinds of DLSPP.In other hand, becauce of the close relationship in the producing andpropagating of SPPs and the free electrons. the electrons are restricted under theelectric field. In this paper, the responses which the films make to current arestudied experimentally though the change of ATR spectrum, in the way the metalflim. The response which the films make to current can be divided into two parts: thereversible process under small current and the irreversible process under largecurrent. In addition, the laws under exipriment of this progress are found and given.
