With the rapid development of photonic integrating technology, the nanophotonic devices which breakthrough the diffraction limit is desirable. The SPPbased-nanophotonics arouses more and more attention recently because of thecharacteristics of SPPs such as shorter wavelength, localization of fields and highernonlinear interaction. There is a specialized term―Plasmonics‖to describe theimportant branch of Nanophotonics. So much research is focused on the micro-nanostructures based on interface between symmetric medium and metal, while less studyis associated with non-symmetric one such as chiral medium. Thus it is significant tostudy behavior of surface plasmonic waves at the interface between chiral mediumand metal. In this thesis, from Maxwell equations and chiral constitutive relations, by usingthe condition on continuity of fields, a characteristic equation is deduced about SPwaves at the interface between chiral medium and metal, meanwhile, the transmissionway of SP waves is investigated, a hybrid mode that differs from that on ordinary(achiral) case, namely the TM mode, is obtained.Compared to the achiral case, the features of SP waves such as field distribution, energy distribution, the distribution of Stokes’s parameters and penetration depthnear the interface between chiral medium and metal are investigated. The attenuationcharacteristic along traveling and transverse directions is analyzed. The dependenceof propagation constant of SP waves on wavelength and chiral parameter is attained. The difference in polarization between chiral and achiral interfaces is compared.
