Since the synchronization principle of chaotic system was proposed by Pecora and Carroll in1990, chaos synchronization has become a hot topic in the nonlinear science research field and has attracted more and more attention in the world due to its many potential applications in physics, chemical reactor, secure communication and ecological systems, etc. In the last decade, Many methods of chaos synchronization have been developed besides the typical drive response method, active passive method, variable feedback method and adaptive method. In this paper, the chaos synchronization between two Rikitake chaotic systems, the two-disc dynamical generator system, is realized by a linear feedback controller. The definition of the chaos, the characteristics of the chaotic system and the typical methods of the chaos synchronization are summarized. Then, the dynamical property of the Rikitake system is investigated and the recent works about chaos synchronization for the Rikitake system is reported including three kinds of the methods and its application in secret communication. In this paper, a method by a linear feedback control is proposed by appropriately seperating the linear and the nonlinear terms in the error dynamical system based on Lyapunov stability theory so that the chaos synchronization between the two-disc dynamical generater systems, the rikitake chaotic system in different initial conditions, is realized. Numerical simulations is given to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.
