With the development of marine technology, the role of submarine sedimentresearch for military and civil becomes more and more important. Getting the acousticproperties of submarine sediment accurately and rapidly is one of the most importantmarine technology, which provides an indirect method for getting the physicalproperties of submarine sediment. However, the situ physical test technology islacking. At the same time, both hardware and signal processing software of theexisting ultrasonic testing system are unedited, so the maintain of professional isneeded. The signal processing platform must be converted after signal acquisition torealize the signal processing. An ultrasonic testing system for sediment which basedon LabVIEW was set up in this research. This system aims to restore submarineenvironment for test sample under the laboratory environment and improve theintelligent level and effectiveness of sediment acoustic testing system.Firstly, the current situation of submarine sediment acoustic testing research andthe development of marine in situ test technology home and abroad were summarized.Secondly, some theoretical researches on the acoustic characteristics of sedimentshave been done, classification and several models of sediments were showed, and thekey technology of software design for sediments ultrasonic testing system has beenanalyzed. Thirdly, the hardware structure and the composition of submarine sedimentultrasound test system based on virtual instrument platform were introduced, whichinclude small scale sediment acoustic physical model test system, transducer drivingcircuit, signal amplifier circuit based on PA85and automatic frequency track circuit.Fourthly, software design and signal analysis section of the system was focused on.LabVIEW was used to control ultrasonic signal sending and receiving. Then, all sortsof measuring principles and methods of sound velocity and attenuation of sedimentwere compared. Depending on the measurement principle, real-time processing and analysis was done, first wave of sound velocity interpretation automatic and gainedattenuation through programming were achieved, the frequency analyzing andcorrelation analyzing for signal were done, the data was stored to the acousticcharacteristics measuring results in the database. Then three experiments for thissystem were designed, the first group experiment was compared this system to theclassical system, the second group of test was the sample of Hangzhou bay, the thirdgroup experiment was using this system to analysis the real-time signal in detailed toget the relevant data. Finally this project research was summarized and the prospectwas risen.An ultrasonic testing system about sediments has been designed in this thesis,which is based on the virtual instrument hardware platform and software developmentplatform-LabVIEW, an open data-processing software for signal processing wasprogrammed. And the measuring and calculation of sediments sound velocitycharacteristic were integrated and efficiency was improved, the extraction ofultrasonic signal information was more direct and precise, the data which support theresearch on the acoustic properties of sediments was provided.
