X-ray pulsar is a kind of neutron star with steady rotation period, its mostimportant property is the quite steady and precise period and the special profile of thesignal it radiates, which leads to pulsar’s great application prospect in the field of timingand navigation etc.A simulation experiment system of X-ray pulsar signal with high precision isdesigned and implemented in this paper. It consists of X-ray pulsar photon signalsimulator and photon detector.The DDS technique and OCXO is adopted to synthesize the standard profile ofpulsar in photon signal simulator, visible light is utilized to simulate the radiation ofpulsar, a linear and controllable light source circuit and an equipment for attenuatinglight and shielding environment light is designed and realized.A Photo Multiplier Tube with fast response and low dark counts is employed in thephoton detector to convert photon to electric pulse, a discriminator is designed toamplify, denoise and shape the electric pulse, an electric system with high timingresolution is designed to record the photon time of arrivals(TOA), and the countingerror in photon detection is analyzed and a method to improve the Signal-to-Noise isput forward.The tests demonstrate that each module could satisfy design requirement, themeasured TOAs is processed in epoch folding and pulsar profile is acquired, whichvalidates the simulation experiment system can be used in the study of X-ray pulsar.
