In this research, we selected18species of shrubs which were common in the northwest area of China. All of the18shrubs can be found in Yinchuan botanical garden. All the shrubs were breeding by cottage or seeding. We transplanted all the shrubs into pot after1year and we treat all the plants the same irrigation in order to make sure all the shrubs were in the same condition. We measured the daynamic photosynthesis, photosynthetic response under the sustained drought stress, photosynthetic response under the different moisture gradient, and photosynthetic carbon sequestration potential. We hoped that this research can provide theoretical support for different vegetation restoration and development of economic forest in different ecological type areas in Ningxia. The results showed:1) Under the same conditions, the net photosynthetic rate curve of18shrubs are bimodal and unimodal. Most of these shrubs had a photosynthetic noon break.2) There were two reasons for the photosynthetic noon break, one is the stomatal limitation, another is non-stomatal limitation.3) Most of these18shrubs can regulate the stoma to get a higher net photosynthetic.4) Salix gordejevii, Symphoricarpos sinensis, Ammopiptanthus mongolicus, Caragana korshinskii showed a strong ability to adapt.5) Under the moderate water stress, Ammopiptanthus mongolicus and Amygdalus mongolica showed a strong ability to adapt, Under the severe water stress, Ammopiptanthus mongolicus showed a strong ability to adapt.6) Different species have differences in carbon efficiency and carbon quantity. The total plant leaf area must take into consider when using dynamic photosynthesis to calculation the carbon quantity. In our research, Salix gordejevii, Caragana intermedia, Salix wilhelmsiana, Salix f.ciliuensis and Caragana korshinskii have more individual quantity of carbon sequestration.
