The Research On Gemology Of Russian Jade

Systemic gemological researches on have been carried out in this article. The studiesof Russian jadeite are few at present. Emphasis had usually placed on the discussion ofRussian jadeite’s deposit characteristics; instead, less stress had placed on the analysis ofRussian jadeite’s gemological characteristics. This paper is a comprehensive summary togemological characteristics of Russian jadeite in order to filling some blanks in thisresearch.Based on the former researches and samples’ testing, such as macroscopic observation,microscopic characteristics observation, electronic probe testing, infrared spectrum testing,and so on, physical properties, structures and constructions, mineral constituents, chemicalcompositions and spectrum characteristics have been studied.This article mainly divides into five parts:The first part is a summary of basic properties of the jade. And some researchachievements in the flied of the jade at this stage.The second part is the characteristics of Russian jadeite. The appearance of Russianjadeite has been described through the macroscopic observation. It also carried ontraditional gemological method conducts the research to the Russian jadeite physicalproperty, such as refractive index, generally relative density and Mohs hardness. Throughpolarizing microscope observation, it discussed the main texture types of Russian jadeite.Besides crystalloblastic texture, deformation texture, metasomatic texture and deformationtexture mentioned in the previous researches, there is some new text, secondary texture.The phenomenon of Cr iron diffusion is caused by the metasomatosis that acting onauxiliary mineral chromite.The fourth part is spectroscopic characteristics. Through the analysis of the infraredspectrum testing, which confirmed jadeite is a main mineral composition of Russian jadeite.Through the analysis of the UV-VIS spectra testing, speculated that there were somechemical elements can absorb ultraviolet light in Russian jadeite, such as Fe, Cr, etc.The fifth part is elementary quality evaluation, compared with Burma jadeite.Analysised the influence factors of its quality, and predicted its possibility of thedevelopment in the market.
