Rogue wave, which is first discovered in the ocean, is a kind of the suddenly appeared big waves for neither fully explained nor predicted, whose wave height is significantly larger, even several times than the wave’s conditions in the adjacent with high peaks, steep and often single peak, and that can maintain a very short time. It has attracted worldwide attention to sea-related staff because of its strong burst harmful, unpredictable and rapidly increasing trend of frequency.Currently, most of the physical model of the dynamic characteristics of the freak wave is characterized by the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Draper L first proposed the concept of "freak wave" in1965. With the depth of the research on freak wave, it have been extensively studied by the available nonlinear Schrodinger equation in Bose-Einstein condensates, nonlinear optical field and so on. In this paper, our study is mainly based on the precise rogue wave solutions of variable coefficient nonlinear Schrodinger equation to discuss the transmission control of rogue waves in nonlinear medium such as waveguide amplifiers and so on.The detailed contents can be concluded as follows:1、Introduce the concept and research status of freak waves as well as the significance of the research on optical rogue waves.2、Similarity transformation, to construct exact optical rogue wave solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger equation with variable coefficients. Moreover, we investigate propagation dynamics of the optical rogue wave in the optical fiber amplifier.3、The dynamics of the optical rogue waves in nonlinear graded-index waveguide amplifers exhibiting Kerr nonlinearity are investigated. The properties of the optical rogue waves can be controlled in the nonlinear optical media through adjusting the corresponding parameters.
