With the further advance of China Railway High-speed Train process, high-speed trains have played a positive role in promoting China’s economic development and have a positive impact on the improvement of people’s living standards. Brake pad is an essential part of the high-speed train braking system. Precise prediction on the distribution of the brake pads’lifetime is not only an effective way to reduce operating costs and improve materials’utilization but also an inevitable requirement to ensure the safety of train’s operation. Therefore, it is of great realistic meaning to study the brake pads’ lifetime distribution.The data presented in this thesis describe the maximum abrasion mileage of brake pads at three different places (left, middle and right) for a certain train. First, using linear regression method, we linerarize the four commonly used distribution function in practical engineering and maximize the coefficient. Then we obtain that the lifetime of the left brake pads follows a Weibull distribution with three parameters and that of the middle and right brake pads have the exponential distribution.Since the estimate on the three parameters of the obtained Weibull distribution is very complicated, we discuss the existing seven major methods. We also introduce a set of random numbers to make comparative analysis on the seven appraoches to parameters estimation and observe that the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method is better. Using MLE method, we obtain the lifetime distributions of the brake pads in the left, middle and right side respectively. Goodness of fit tests are also performed by PP plot.With the lifetime distributions of brake pads at three different positions, we infer the life distribution for the whole brake system. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we get random numbers of the whole brake system’s life. Then based on MLE method, we estimate the parameters of the life distribution for the whole brake system and make hypothesis testing. Our conclusion is that the life distribution of the whole EMUs’ brake system in a certain train has the exponential distribution.
