In recent years, infrared technology is applied to military and civilian fields more and more, the infrared imaging technology is researched in-depth, promoting the high-speed development of infrared technology. Uncooled imaging has been attracting widespread attention with its own advantages. In order to obtain the means of miniaturization, high-resolution, high-performance detection, infrared optical system design work has practical significance.The radiation and transmission characteristics of infrared light and zoom optical system general design theory are discussed in this paper. Adopting mechanical compensation, an infrared zoom optical system in the long wave8-12μm region was designed. The F/#of the system is1,and the relative aperture is invariant during the zoom process, the effective focal length range from50mm to200mm. The zoom cam curve is drawn by zpl directly. Can monitor the image quality of the respective focal length position when the focal length is changing, and simplify the design process, improve the reliability. Since the highly sensitivity to any change of the temperature of infrared optical system, several thermal compensation methods were studied, the image plane drift was compensated within a certain temperature range. The final allocate reasonable tolerance, results showed that the structural design was reasonable, the system has high image quality.
