With the adjustment of national industrial structure, vocational technicians are greatlyneeded and higher vocational education has been paid more and more attention. The nationaleducation plan for the next decade and the Twelfth Five-Year Plan for National Economic andSocial Development both propose to develop vocational education and enhance thepopularization and the quality of higher education. Mathematics, as a theoretical basis forspecialized courses, plays a very important role in talent training in higher vocationaleducation. The quality of advanced mathematics teaching directly affects the vocationalcollege students’ skill learning and continuing education. Firstly, the thesis explores thetheories of domestic and foreign mathematics teaching in higher vocational colleges and theinfluence on students’ learning. And then, it conducts a few interviews and questionnairesurvey among some teachers and students in order to ensure the authenticity and accuracy,which demonstrate the current situation of students’mathematics learning and objectivelyreflect the main factors influencing their learning, such as their learning motivation,psychological state, current situation on learning and teaching, teaching materials andextracurricular activities about mathematics. The survey shows that on one hand, the students’original foundation of mathematics is not solid and they have a poor psychological qualityand insufficient learning capacity. And on the other hand, the single teaching model andmaterials can not highlight the characteristics of higher vocational education. In addition,there are few activities about mathematics, which can not arouse the students’ interest in thissubject. So in this paper, constructive teaching strategies are put forward. That is to stimulatethe students’ initiative, enhance mathematics education concept and strengthen its features ofserving the professional courses by stratified teaching, modular teaching and the reform ofclassroom teaching. In stratified teaching experiment, the students are divided into threedifferent levels, who adopt different goals, different teaching methods and differentexaminations. And in modular teaching, mathematics has been further refined, mainlycharacterizing the combination with different majors. As far as the reform of classroomteaching is concerned, teachers should integrate the mathematics culture into their teachingand strengthen the idea of mathematical modeling and improve the assessment mode, that isto say, turning final examinations into usual grades, experiments or mathematical thesiswriting. By these evaluation methods, students’ learning potential can be easily exploited. Inorder to create a group of professional mathematics teachers with solid theoretical foundation, it is strongly recommended that mathematics teachers should be assigned to each professionalgroup, combining vocational education concept with mathematics application to the utmost.This paper mainly concentrates on the regular monitoring on students’ learning effect andattention paid to them. Together with small-class teaching, it turns to be beneficial and gets agood and obvious effect.In this paper, by the survey and analysis of students’ current situation on learningmathematics, the study not only aims to find the methods which can improve the effectivenessof higher vocational college students’ learning mathematics and enhance theircompetitiveness, but also to provide some reference for the reform on mathematics in highervocational colleges and related research and provide the skilled talents of high quality withsome feasible suggestions on mathematics learning.
