As a destructive geological event,geological disaster often imposes severe threat onhuman life, properties and living environment, hindering sustainable development ofhuman beings. In the past several decades, China has made fruitful achievement in theresearch of geological disaster. However, compared with other international advancedresearch achievements, there is still a long way for China.Regions along the Yangtze River bank of Anhui Province are typical of complicatedengineering geological condition and diverse source of geological disaster, severelythreatening the construction of various traffic projects, including port and pier. Bystudying the typical regions that are easily exposed to geological disaster, includinglandslides, collapse, shore collapse, piping and levee cracking, in Anhui Province’sfive cities along the Yangtze River bank, namely Ma’anshan, Wuhu, Tongling,Chizhou and Anqing, and the distribution as well as characteristics of subsidence inthese areas, the paper summarized the regularity of distribution and formationmechanism of geological disaster along Wanjiang River bank. And meanwhile, thepaper gave further evidence to the importance of investigation and governance ontypical regions with geological disasters. The paper conducted the research to provideengineering geologic basis for overall planning, shoreline, comprehensive utilizationof land, geological environmental protection as well as renovation in Wanjiang Port,and at the same time, proposed specific suggestions and countermeasures for theexisting problems, and collected reliable regional engineering geological data for theconstruction of various transportation projects along Wanjiang River bank, mainlydata for the planning, site selection and prefeasibility study of the construction of portand pier. Therefore, the research is of practical significance to reasonable utilizationof resources along Wanjiang River bank and boosting scientific development ofWanjiang Port.
