Zhaoyuan County in the southwest of Heilongjiang Province, it is the tradecenter on the western channel. With the impact of the rapid economic developmentand human activities, groundwater-related environmental problems have becomeincreasingly serious. As the serious pollution of shallow groundwater in the studyarea, the deep confined water as the main source of water supply. Confinedgroundwater in the area receive leakage recharge form the above groundwater. Andthe water-head between unconfined and confined groundwater is increasinggradually with long-term confined groundwater exploitation. Both of them make iteasier for the groundwater to move from the unconfined aquifer to confined aquifervia the weak aquifer, and the pollution risk to confined groundwater is higher.Therefore, the vulnerability assessment of confined groundwater and protection zonedivision in the study area are significant to guide confined groundwater exploitationand groundwater protection.Based on the meteorological, hydrological, geological and hydrogeological datacollected in study area, make clear of distributions characteristics of groundwateraquifer, hydraulic, dynamic and cycling characteristics. Based on analyzinggroundwater samples results, groundwater chemical characteristics contribution hasbeen analyzed and the groundwater quality has been evaluated.According to the DRASTIC model principle, establishing evaluation indexsystem suitable for confined water vulnerability assessment, using PHBATQ modelfor the study area to evaluate the vulnerability of artesian water. The region’svulnerable areas are separated into high fragile areas, meddle fragile areas,low-fragile areas.Based on the result of confined water vulnerability assessment, groundwatersource protection zones are divided at all levels:high vulnerability areas watersource protection zone with a radius of217m, moderate vulnerability zone is92m, low vulnerability zone is81m, and make specific management measures.
