Geologic section is used for expressing the spatial distribution of structure and lithology of strata using normal symbols, patterns and color from the X, Z direction in a certain proportion. It shows the structure and sedimentary rule of strata intuitively. Quaternary geologic section is mainly used for expressing the quaternary strata characteristics including times, causes, lithology, occurrence and structure and so on.The existing systems of drawing geologic section are based on desktop application.The application and extension is limited by desktop application mode. The desktop application mode is not conductive to the extensive use of the data of bore and the drawing systems, The Quaternary geologic section cannot be realized quickly on the web using desktop drawing method because the algorithm of building geological subsurface has low effectiveness.The method of calling picture at the browser is not suitable for drawing geologic section fast because the bore is selected randomly.Therefore, the proposed method in this paper of quaternary geologic section automatically generating based on service mode could improve efficicency of section automatically generating, and be significant in automatically geologic section generating on the web.The main contents and conclusions are as follows:(1) Research about the related knowledge and rules of drawing quaternary geologic section. The paper anaylzed and studied the elements and drawing principle of quaternary geologic section, the division method, spatial distribution type and jut rules of quaternary strata. Finally, the related knowledge and rules of drawing quaternary geologic section were made.(2) Research about building method of functional services of quaternary geologic section automatically generating. The paper studied specifically the building methods and realization steps of the functional services based on the knowledge and rules. And the orderly recognition method of strata structure types, the smoothing algorithm of strata based on tension spline function, the building algorithms of arc topo logical relation based on class azimuth angle, the improved algorithms of building geological subsurface were put forward. (3) Research about realization the automatically generating method of quaternary geologic section on the web. The graphic drawing methods and service implementation of quaternary geologic section were analyzed. Based on these methods and knowledge and rules, the quaternary geologic section is automatically drawing on the web calling the functional services.
